Cyber Seminar

The revolution in Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) has changed society fundamentally and will probably continue to do so in the coming years.  This fast changing growth of ICTs has radically changed the way people interact and conduct business. The unprecedented exchange and dissemination of information effected through electronics systems, regardless of geographical distances, with unlimited possibilities have changed our society profoundly. Thus on the one hand the use of ICTs has been advancing by leaps and bounds in every realm of life and on the other hand, tendency to manipulate the use of ICTs illegally for various vested interests also has been on the rise. The dark side of it is the emergence of new type of crimes – Cyber Crimes.

Thus, information security is not simply the responsibility of network administrators only, it is the responsibility of every internet user as their ignorance may result in security threats to their confidential and sensitive data assets. India is one among the few countries in the world that have a separate law on cyber crimes known as Information Technology Act 2000.  The IT Act provides the backbone to handle the accelerated growth of cyber crimes and it aims to regulate and legalize e-Commerce and take cognizance of offences arising therefrom. Still, it has been an accepted fact that most of the white-collar crimes in India are not getting reported and when reported are not necessarily dealt with under the IT Act.

Intensified concrete steps to curb cyber crimes and nurture fair cyber practices are the need of the hour especially in the booming rate of cyber crimes that are not restricted by geographical limitations or national boundaries.
